And you get a CD with all of the images, too.
How many times have you heard or seen this?
More and more we are seeing this in the industry, and it is so disheartening. Everyone with a digital camera is now a photographer. I can honestly say that most of the individuals will not be in business for very long. I went through some old expired profiles recently to check the status of their business, and most of them were no longer there. The domain names were up for sale. In all honesty, most of the time, I could look at their business name even before I clicked on it and could tell you if they were still in business.
The sad thing is that it hurts the businesses of those of us who actually take this seriously.
Many clients think we show up for an hour or two with a camera and that is all that goes into their images and cannot possibly see why that is worth so much money. They do not see the time and money spent behind the scenes.
The Value of a Portrait is an article written to show clients a more accurate estimate of the true costs in time and money that goes into their portraits when they hire a professional photographer. They will get what they pay for when it comes to photography. And they really do have to make a choice. Do I want a really good deal or do I want a keepsake?

When I see those kind of photographers, I laugh a little. Maybe some people really can’t tell the difference, but that’s hard to believe. Maybe some people really think it’s like getting an item on clearance at the store. I think the real tragedy is that a real photographer may never get a chance with someone who’s just looking for the lowest cost.
