I just watched a segment on our local news that told of how facebook sponsors can use your pictures in ads if you do not have the correct settings checked. This article gives instructions on where to go and what to choose. It sounds like the applications you have added is what allows this.
When is Facebook going to get the message that people do not want their pictures used without express permission (and, no, I don’t mean that they make you consent to let them use your photos or you can’t use facebook) for whatever specific purpose. It’s not even facebook using them. It is their sponsors, so your image could actually end up in a dating site ad. That is what happened to one woman in this news segment. Her husband happened to go on facebook and saw his wife’s picture on an ad for a dating site. I can only imagine that conversation. “Uhm, honey, is there something you are not telling me?”
No matter how many times we complain, it seems like facebook bullies their way through this and we find out yet another way our photos are being used. Kudos to our local news for not only sharing the news that it is being done but also for sharing with us how to fix it.

unbelievable! Thank you for taking the time to bring this to our attention! this is the first I’ve heard about this!
off to change my settings!
Creepy and wrong.
I wasn’t shocked to see it but was disappointed. It appears facebook’s story is that it is the sponsors that is the problem. When we allow applications access, we apparently sign off on them using our images. This is where the problem lies. Facebook gives them permission to override any previous terms. I do not think most people using these applications realize that they are giving them permission to use their photos. And apparently, not many people knew about this spot to take back that permission until this story broke.
So be sure you do this on your facebook account:
Settings > Privacy > News Feed and Wall >
From here be sure to click “Facebook Ads” in the tab.
Then choose “None” on both questions on the next page.
Hope this has helped you guys.
